ig'zam fee-vur

Exams are near,raising the fear.
as it has been happening since past long before i remember ,
again i have to face a back-to-back action packed 6 day bonaza .
adding up to this great offer is the Brobdingnagian course .
I have to study a syllabus "ranging from far deep corners of infinite line source circular reservoir , where we can reach drilling directionally through the journey strolling through shale ,sandstone, impervious paths, with continuous mud circulation and travelling back right upto the surface storage  equipments, ending up with the vibrant Gas flare".
Yes i know, apart from my fellow mates,my readers wouldn't be getting a word, but by writing all this i feel the inner self generated feelings that often bubble out of me,each now and then !!

As per as history is concern ,Ancient China was the first country to develop a test called as Imperial Examination. It is a bit too obvious also ..considering the vast amount of population ,to select and properly test a person's skill, they are deserving and hence apt for this invention!
Preparing for exam bring a person to such a state that even staring at walls seems interesting!
So it's all for now then..wont' be around for two weeks or so..
Exam fever On!!
Only relaxation from this environment is me ,my headphones and Coldplay.
Give me some good luck.
Good bye.
Sid.

falling slowly

At last weekend ahead. What a soothing feeling it brings along is just precious.,rare..and the most important thing it brings is silence ..in mind ,in soul ..Everything is mind's play in the end,(and you are going to agree with me on that). One more mind play example -When someone asked you specifically not to do a certain thing .. you become restless ,uneasy,, excited.about doing that particular thing only .don't you.?
I feel sometimes a sense of non-be-longness to the current environment ..does that ever happened to you also.
Ask two questions to yourself
1.Why are you here ,wherever you are.??
2.Why are you doing whatever you are.??
I sometimes convince myself very easily, but today and many-a-times more i feel dejected.Do you?
I can more easily describe that in two lines

Trying to pull myself away
I'm caught in a pattern and I can't escape

It's like a feeling of being caught in a rat race and most importantly even if you win ,you are still a rat.Are you?
I know you are thinking it's just because of accumulated tensions of result, placement, job and all,but i know it's not that.Ok lets suppose i got that what i want, then what
I would be working in a Company earning bucks but then what? Yes I am definitely going to be happy for a while but then what .u see SATISFACTION,this character trait is much rarely found in human species. To say it more convincingly here goes.

People are funny. They spend money they haven`t earned, to buy things they don`t need, to impress people they don`t like.

So what if i am not going to be SATISFIED? Same old restlessness cycle repeats itself and till i sort that out regarding what i actually want ,my age would be very close an average human being on Earth very feeble to fight for .much of it now
Let's change topic.
People are funny na!. Yesterday i was in an awkward situation when I was standing next to my friend who was talking to someone whom I didn't know.
Also it's like, When my parents say, "We need to talk to you." I immediately start to think of everything I`ve done wrong to make up a legitimate excuse.

Ah well a really weird idea came across What if ?

"Everyone could hear what you are thinking "

Imagine the situation how bad it can be.or may be it can be helpful also, but one thing for sure there will be no such thing like secret!
well enough weird thoughts for the day, would like to end up with lines from a song "Lies"

You're moving too fast for me

And I can't keep up with you
Maybe if you slowed down for me
I could see you're only telling
Lies, lies, lies
Breaking us down with your
Lies, lies, lies

Good bye

Of murphy,chaos,butterflies and dominos.

It's inbuilt in human nature to get amused by anything new he came across which is either very bizarre ,weird and eye-catching or is pretty simple ,obvious ,daily experienced but remained un-noticed generally.
Ever heard of any theories or concepts remotely related to the title.Well I bet some of my able readers must have got an idea what i'm talking about.Let's start with a simple one

Murphy's law - It says -"Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong".
Does that ever happened to you?.It's not just a coincidence. There are whole bunch of laws based on it.
These laws are distributed in to various categories ,each having its own texture.
Some more of them are

  • The first myth of management is that is exists.
  • Hard disks are always full.It is futile to try to get more disk space. Data expands to fill any void.
  • When any instrument is dropped, it will roll into the least accessible corner.
  • If you're running late the bus will be too.
  • Things get worse under pressure.
  • Always draw your curves, then plot your reading.

You can go through them all at http://www.murphys-laws.com/

Chaos theory-Well this one needs little thinking.. It says "small differences in initial conditions (such as those due to rounding errors in numerical computation) yield widely diverging outcomes for chaotic systems, rendering long-term prediction impossible in general".
It has wide applications in many scientific disciplines. The most commonest example of it is the Butterfly effect.Well many of you must have watched the movie and its two sequels.. and if you didn't its my recommendation to have a rendezvous with it.
The phrase "butterfly effect" refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that may ultimately alter the path of a tornado or delay, accelerate or even prevent the occurrence of a tornado in a certain location. The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale alterations of events.
More simple example can be taken off a ball at the top of a mountain which can roll down in any possible direction based on any change in its initial conditions.
The big concept of time travel can also be related to it where small minor event change in past can alter future outcomes drastically!!

Domino effect-According to it " a chain reaction can be initiated when a small change causes a similar change nearby which then will cause another similar change, and so on in linear sequence."
A real life example of it can be observed in tumbling of bicycle in a stand when a small push is given to the first one ..

I wanted to add one more theory in this post that was String theory aka "The Theory of Everything".It is something which is highly debatable with its concepts of matter consisting of strings and introduction to 11 dimensions. It is believed  that Einstein in his last days was busy formulating the principles of this theory .Many research work is currently performed on this subject , notably by Prof.Stephen Hawking.

Well enough of that, for users who are using Chrome web browser ,update to the newest version.some new features have been added.you can visit them at  https://chrome.google.com/webstore?hl=en-US

the success cycle

Does it ever happened to you .when you witness the last piece of your favorite ice cream is just been sold out in front of you,you had the aroma of that already filling up your nostrils ,your tongue was just going to have a tryst with that big ,spongy, smooth thing but ALAS it's not with you!!
What do you do ?
Are you frustrated ?
Are you jealous ?
Are you feeling unlucky?

CAN YOU DESCRIBE THAT FEELING.
Coming to the realistic world,
You must have been wait listed once in your lifetime in trains(you didnt ..come on you can't be so lucky!)
What does it feel like to be helpless, needy, lost ..just being dependent on somebody else.to cancel their ticket so that you can a get a berth to sit on ..hah .So was it your fault, yes to some extent ,but you have paid the same amount of money as the person with a reserved berth.so why is the difference ,

                      " Yes you are right,
                               your timing isn't right
and luck is not on your side."

We have always been inspired by great persons doing great things in life and we always wanted to follow their footsteps..but do we ever wonder their was one and many more just behind them who had done equal hardwork ,equal efforts ,and had equal potential but yet they are not one of your inspirations.
Some consolation for them goes like this:-

"it was not for you dear, God has sent you to achieve far more better things in life"

What can they say , where have they done wrong even they don't know, what are they going to improve, and people well people are just lost in praising the winner and (better luck next time)*ing the others.
So,should they lose hope,or change their path and goal and career,
never they fight and fight and fight.
The infinite faith in them keep them alive,
their hardworking soul is burnt in the darkness
and here they come " Enlightened "
and at last as "WINNERS" and the process is repeated again for some other similar person and hence
 the cycle for success continues.

This post dedicated to all those who have just tasted success but couldn't get the overall zest of it,
to all those whose prominent bad luck have made them to lose hope ,
to all those who think they are never going to win..
I just wanted to say one thing to them
"You all are winners in my eyes and hopefully in those which are currently busy reading the blog."
Hats off to all of you!!
Signing off.
Good bye
Sid.

Gigascopic pictorials

Hello world,Good evening..weekend's ahead ..the burden of studies is increasing exponentially..
(well did you noticed that .."exponentially" the thing is even you are not good at graphs but still you can describe any situation  with these phrases ..one of my lecturer one day told me .."if you are placed in this company ..even  if your pay is less your growth will be exponential" HAHA!)

my web travel is gaining pace and i discovered a lot new sites everyday. Each site has its own specialty ,if you are getting bored these are going to serve you like pepsi in summer ,coffee in winter, oasis in desert ,yes i know you got the point ,let me give you some links
the last four websites are designed by Jonathan Harris,an incredible internet artist.
you can read more about him on www.number27.org

Now according to the title of the post you have not yet faced anything "gigascopic",just wait for a while because you are going to struggle a bit with your mouse to scroll horizontally to go through these pictures.

To begin with last night i saw a picture on the web regarding what would be the world map like if the area for each country is distributed according to the population on one condition, whole country is habitable.See what's the result:-

interesting isn't it??the most fascinating being USA doesn't moves ,what are thoughts  regarding that do tell me ..
Coming to my mother topic World of Petroleum this time i got some pictorial data regarding the oil consumption around the globe..
Also i fortunately got one fascinating picture on the origin of oil and gas and how it is generated inside Earth..

"A picture can say a thousand words"

remember this saying ,i think it can't be more true than this.I will try to hunt and go down more on this topic while you enjoy surfing my blog ..
Signing off.
Good bye

Left over..

Tuesday evening,nothing to do,
listening to Coldplay ,helping me elude from this humdrum world. While surfing came across a nice site that has developed an app which turns your ordinary mouse movements into modern art!
it's address is http://iographica.com/ do visit.I got some nice graphics.

Now ,coming to World of Petroleum..
let me begin with the name of my blog.
Stochastic World of Petroleum.
Stochastic means random.I named it that because in "our" world (I'm saying "our" because slowly and slowly this oil and gas knowledge is drowning me into its mysterious depths and now I'm also becoming a part of it just like my other college mates )
Coming back so ..in our world nothing is sure ..nothing is certain.By nothing I mean everything. It includes uncertainty of finding prospective areas having oil accumulation, how much depth are we going to drill, how much oil are we going to produce, how much money are we going to make, will revenue collected will be enough to generate profits. So in other sense ..If you ask me whether
Petroleum Engineering and Gambling are the same thing??
I would say definitely YES(but in a legal way).
Huge amount of money is invested in the whole process of extracting oil from rocks, transporting it through
pipelines, refining it and bringing it to petrol pump near you.The immense dependability of world's functionality
on oil products make people spend  more and more in this sector. The greed for money(just like gambling)
drives them nuts.It is said if crude oil prices in the international markets shoot up to $150/barrel , oil companies are willing to drill in the Himalayas.Indeed my and my fellow mates jobs and pay packages are largely dependent on crude oil prices.High prices generates more jobs and fat pays. Thats why I put that gadget on my home screen that shows daily oil prices.

Often my friends ask me about future of my career.
Their argument is " Oil and Gas is for sure going to end one day. What are you going to do then?"
So i thought why not google this topic and i got some satisfying results like "Changes in consumer patterns and emergence of new technologies driven by increases in the price of oil will prevent the oil supply from ever running out".
Like there was Stone age,Bronze age,Iron age currently we can say this is "Oil age".
Now,Stone age didn't end because there was scarcity of stones on earth, but man evolved new methods by using metals to assist him in his day-to-day work .Similarly ,i think we will never run out of oil but new methods are going to substitute it.
But definitely one question often hovers over my mind.
So how much oil is left ? and more importantly is there enough for everyone.
Many theories have been given ,most famous being of Hubbert,
who predicted that U.S. oil production would be at its peak in 1970,which ultimately turned out to be accurate. His prediction on world's peak oil production is around the corner or may be we are just going through it.(By peak oil ,i mean that point onwards where we can't pump more from a well to keep up with the demands and from then on oil production is going to decrease year after year.So after reaching peak oil for world ,we would have used up almost half of the world’s oil. When we reach the half-way point on a bell curve, we embark upon the decline.)

What are my thoughts about it ...i don't know.Due to uncertainty in truthfulness about data of OPEC reserves ,it is difficult to say anything. Many geologists have predictions regarding world peak oil period ranging from 2005-2015.Many have a feeling it's upon us now.
Also China's booming economy is making it worse.China's oil consumption is increasing 11% per yr.
Their thirst of oil due to their growing interest in automobiles is making the scenario worse.Chinese consumers are buying 8 million cars annually. They are World's 2nd oil user after US.

So,bringing down this discussion to a conclusion..i derived three things
  1. Oil is not an infinite resource.
  2. Remaining supplies of oil should be used wisely.
  3. Alternative sources of energy need to be brought on line soon
considering the alternative sources biofuels have caused some relief. But specialists say vast production of bio fuels raises food prices and other side effects.Think of these issues the next time you refill your tank or the next time you buy a car.

Enough of it for now ,would like it to end it with a Saudi saying :-
"My father rode a camel.
I drive a car.
My son flies a jet airplane.
His son will ride a camel.”

well ..time to say goodbye for now.it's time for dinner ..
Signing off..
Sid..

Bare Beginnings

My First Post ..
Hello to you All .
My name is Siddhant Dwivedi ,
I'm a 20 year old boy pursuing Petroleum engineering from School of Petroleum Technology,
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University,Gandhinagar,Gujarat.
Well being in the field of Petroleum Engineering various things amuse me,
be it drilling bit or drilling rig,oil well or the company "Shell".
Also the high low trend of rising and falling prices of crude oil
makes me wonder how things around us change just on the price regulation of one single commodity i.e. crude oil in the market.
So i decided why not write a blog about my life and crude oil around it, well sort of my thoughts on what's happening in the world and how i am understanding this branch of engineering.
This blog however is much more than that only,it will be full of my personal cravings and also would be full of my hidden computer talents and weird thoughts and movie and book reviews and this and that .u know what a 20 year old engineering student can think of..just be with me ..till then..

(P.S. the title "Bare Beginnings" is from Chetan bhagat book "Five point someone" Chapter 1 .)
